I've been reminded that it's important that we give the proper explanations
and alerts for our bids on BBO.
Unlike at the bridge club, we explain our own bids, not our
partner's, because partner can't see those explanations. The best
way is to type in the explanation box before making the
bid. If you don't get to that in time, click on your bid in
the auction and an explanation box will be provided.
The opponents are also allowed to ask questions about your
partnership agreements. Bridge is a game of full disclosure! If an
opponent asks a question, the best way to answer is this: To the
left of the chat field is a button that specifies where your chat is
to be directed. If you click that, one of your options will be
"Opponents ->". Select that, and your explanation will be
directed only to the opponents, and invisible to your partner.
BBO doesn't make it easy, but we still have the obligation to answer
reasonable questions from the opponents. If there's ever any doubt,
give the director a call and I'll help out.
